This page predicts what stories will be told, not what will happen. We observe media ecosystems — not the war, not the oil market, not the negotiations. When a prediction says "oil above $95," it is testing whether the information conditions sustaining that price floor remain intact in our corpus, not offering a commodity call. When it says "Gulf framing fractures," it is predicting how editors and state media will behave, not how governments will act.
Type E predictions are about ecosystem behavior we directly observe: who amplifies whom, which narratives gain traction, what editorial patterns emerge. Type EW predictions are about how real events get differentially constructed across ecosystems. Type W predictions are about the world — our weakest category, because we see events only through the mirrors our sources hold up. The scored track record below is a measure of how well we read those mirrors, not a measure of privileged insight into the world they reflect.
The Daily Forecast
Iran Strikes Monitor — September 25, 2026
Day 210 of the US-Israeli air campaign against Iran. Hours 4995–5019 since first strikes at ~06:10 UTC, February 28.
This forecast covers editorials #669 through #670, published between 10:06 and 22:06 UTC on September 24. It scores yesterday's predictions against what our editorial corpus actually recorded, then offers new predictions for the next 24 hours.
How this works
This observatory monitors the information environment around the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, not the war itself. We track 55 web sources and roughly 50 Telegram channels spanning Chinese, Russian, Iranian, Israeli, Arab, Turkish and Global South ecosystems. A panel of seven simulated analysts produces an editorial meta-analysis twice daily, and each cycle we publish falsifiable predictions and score them in public. Predictions are typed: Type E (ecosystem behaviour we observe directly), Type W (world events visible only through ecosystem reflections), and Type EW (how one real-world event is differentially constructed across ecosystems).
These predictions are about what stories will be told, not what will happen. When we name a charter rate, a casualty figure or a transit count, we are testing whether the information conditions that keep that object visible and contested in our corpus hold — not offering a verification, a trading signal or an intelligence estimate. By design we do not monitor Western mass media directly — AP, WSJ, Reuters, CNN, AFP, Guardian, Bloomberg, Financial Times, CBS. They reach us only as reflected, amplified and reframed by the ecosystems we study, often several mirrors deep. About our methodology.
Where we are
A proposition about American force generation is being assembled in pieces by ecosystems that never state it. In #669, a CNN report — sourced to a letter obtained by CBS, per BBC Persian — that eight sailors from the USS Abraham Lincoln strike group attempted suicide during the Iran deployment entered our corpus at 21:14 UTC and reached seven language communities by morning: Press TV, Fars, Mehr, IRNA, IntelSlava, Al Mayadeen, Al Arabiya, Al Hadath, Anadolu, Geo News, Sinhala-language Ada Derana, Spanish-language teleSUR. Almost nobody added a frame, and almost nobody connected it to the two adjacent items in the same feeds — the Lincoln's first port call in more than eight months, at Guam, and a French analyst's claim in Le Point that over half the US carrier fleet is unfit for tasking. Only TASS assembled the components into an argument. The conclusion is being left to assemble in the reader.
Iran lost the framing contest over an Iranian story on Iranian territory. In #670, a Varesh Airlines flight to Dushanbe turned back after Turkmenistan declined overflight. Iran's own civil aviation spokesman reported it dryly through ISNA and Radio Farda; the version that travelled was the Israeli OSINT channel AbuAliExpress's captain's-announcement account, roughly 8,000 views against ISNA's few hundred, and by the fourth hop "denied passage" had become "completely closed their airspace." Iranian state media arrived last and in reassurance mode, Mehr listing destinations still served and IRNA quoting the spokesman that people "should not worry about individual cancellations." The UAE's suspension of Iranian flights was carried by WAM and Xinhua as flat sanctions compliance, by the OSINT channels as reciprocal closure, and by Al Arabiya as a business-desk question about which countries have closed their skies. One delegation published two incompatible registers in a single day, and neither was retracted. In New York, Pezeshkian told NBC — reaching us via Al Jazeera Arabic and Mehr — that Tehran wants a deal before the US midterms and is open to inspections. In Tehran, the SNSC secretary told Press TV there is no return to pre-war diplomacy, the IRGC commander repeated "we do not fear war" through Al Mayadeen, and Safavi said Hormuz will never return to what it was. Reuters, through Al Jazeera Arabic, has negotiators discussing a phased path with neither side moving first; a White House official in the same chain says Trump is open to talks but "not in urgent need." One party has published a deadline and the other has published the absence of one. Follow Negotiations & Ceasefire Diplomacy.
Hormuz is now a counting dispute, and the quietest numbers have no constituency. Eighty states demanded the strait's urgent reopening; Mehr did not contest the text but attacked its negative space, calling it "black theatre" for omitting American, Israeli and Yemeni casualties. An unnamed US official told Al Arabiya sixty commercial ships transited the strait in a day — picked up by nobody — while the IRGC spokesman told Al Mayadeen American vessels have pulled 400km back to Bahrain. The IMO's secretary-general told BBC Persian he has never seen global shipping so affected by conflict, and no ecosystem amplified him. The same asymmetry runs through Yemen, where the IOM's count of more than 134,000 newly displaced — the largest figure in the window — was carried by a single wire flash and repeated by no one. Follow Strait of Hormuz & Oil.
Yesterday's scorecard
Both scored editorials were published after yesterday's forecast, with the standard one-hour window overlap. This is our second consecutive uncontaminated scoring set.
| # | Prediction | Type | P | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| H1 | Claim hygiene applied inside an outlet's own ecosystem | E | 78% | Partial. The sharp behaviour we specified — an outlet interrogating an institution it normally relays, or correcting itself — did not recur. What we got was Al Arabiya publishing the sixty-transit figure that complicates its own region's closure narrative, and framing the UNGA walkout as routine Assembly convention while every other ecosystem maximised the footage. A datapoint published against one's own frame, not an audit. The twelve-window clean-confirmation series ends here. |
| H2 | Iran's split over the Witkoff channel stays a split, president defended, foreign minister not | E | 76% | Partial. The split held and widened, but it moved. Al Arabiya alone named "Araghchi's criticism" as the thing the military endorsements were repairing; no Iranian outlet in these windows renewed the prosecution of the foreign ministry. Instead the fracture surfaced as Pezeshkian's NBC deadline against the SNSC's "no return to pre-war diplomacy," and as Khatami's message — praise for the courage of the trip, then a demand to find the least costly way out. |
| H3 | Iranian casualty counts on the same object circulate unreconciled | E | 74% | Partial. The structure we described is intact: Minab moved through the entire Persian ecosystem as commemoration — angelic faces, an IRNA feature, the Nagoya delegation's dedication, the president's legal deputy taking the file international — while the technical ledger stayed exact (44 million food-coupon recipients, a 26% fall in oil-and-gas GDP from Tehran's own statistical centre, five bridges struck per Hormozgan). But the 168-desks/120-students divergence did not recur. The toll stopped being audited by ceasing to be quantified at all. |
| H4 | Aviation cordon enumerated while its authorizing text stays outside our corpus | E | 72% | Confirmed, cleanly. Turkmenistan's overflight refusal, the UAE suspension as "sanctions compliance" via WAM and Xinhua, a FlyDubai detour, Mehr's surviving-destinations list, Al Arabiya's which-skies-are-closed piece. Three consecutive windows, no outlet publishing, quoting or linking a primary US Treasury text. The Marandi threat against Gulf airport compliance reached us only through AbuAliExpress and the Jerusalem Post — again the ledger is kept by the adversary. |
| H5 | An ecosystem publishes measurement of its own media reception as news | E | 70% | Confirmed. IRNA catalogued domestic reactions to the speech from Shariatmadari to Mohajerani; the Basij offered the displayed images of the Minab and Lamerd martyrs as evidence the speech landed; and Fars and IRNA both sourced their own delegation's Soleimani portrait to Israeli media — proving a gesture registered by citing the adversary noticing it. |
| H6 | Yemen's civilian ledger stays sorted by ecosystem | E | 74% | Confirmed, the best-evidenced call in the set. Razih, Marran, a Hayfan cemetery, Kamaran island, a Taiz water station and Sanaa's cumulative 1,018 airstrikes reached us only via Al Mayadeen citing Saba, Al Manar, Press TV, IRNA. No Gulf outlet in either window carried any of them. Running the other way, Al Manar headlined "hundreds dead or injured" at Jizan with no corroboration anywhere. The UN commissioner's 125 casualties and the IOM's 134,000 displaced sat essentially alone in Al Jazeera's feed. |
| H7 | One institutional text harvested selectively by ≥3 ecosystems, omission as position | EW | 76% | Confirmed, three specimens. The Costa–Pezeshkian meeting produced two readouts with no overlapping content — three European asks in the Al Jazeera wire, none of them in ISNA or Fars, which carried instead Pezeshkian telling Costa Europe has removed itself from world affairs. Safavi's staged conditionals were preserved by Qatari-owned Al Jazeera Arabic and compressed into a threat headline by Saudi-owned Al Hadath. The eighty-state statement was carried intact by three ecosystems and attacked for its omissions by a fourth. |
| H8 | A maritime or strike event enters with attribution supplied by non-belligerents | EW | 72% | Partial. No new hull-and-projectile event of the Cape Dao class appeared. The nearest analogue inverts the mechanism: Fars alone reported Hormozgan saying five bridges including Kahurestan have been struck, with no state peer, OSINT channel or Western-facing outlet carrying it, and no perpetrator named by anyone. The struck party published the geometry; nobody at all published the attribution. Absence of an arbitrating layer, not a third-party one. |
| H9 | An energy or freight print read as diplomacy in one ecosystem, physical supply in another | EW | 70% | Partial. The record $1.2mn/day charter rate travelled as leverage through Al-Masirah English and ISNA and as household cost through European diesel and Indian pump reporting — but those are adjacent prints, not one number carried both ways. Meanwhile the refutation limb half-triggered: the IMO's unprecedented-strain statement and Tehran's own 26% GDP contraction arrived with no construction attached and no amplification. Neutral technical data is not being contested; it is being ignored. |
| H10 | An Iranian capability claim circulates in Iranian/resistance carriage with no Russian or OSINT pickup | EW | 66% | Confirmed, on a single thin specimen. The IRGC spokesman's claim that American vessels have withdrawn 400km and remain in Bahrain moved through Al Mayadeen with no Russian milblog or OSINT amplification — in a window where Russian channels freely carried Western reporting on American naval strain, including the Le Point half-the-fleet claim and the Hong Kong F-35 components story. The silence is selective to Iranian-origin claims. |
| H11 | ≥8 new named objects across ≥3 categories | W | 80% | Confirmed comfortably. Eight sailors, nine months at sea, a first port call in eight months, half the carrier fleet unfit, 44 million food-coupon recipients, a wage covering fewer than ten days, $1.2mn/day, European diesel 40% up, Indian pumps 5 rupees in ten days, 73,928 Gaza dead, 125 Yemeni casualties, 1,018 airstrikes, 134,000 displaced, eighty states, a Senate vote of 50–49, 77 walkouts, 60 transits, 400km, five bridges, a 26% GDP fall. Fourteen consecutive scored windows above threshold. |
| H12 | A stated Iranian deadline passes without any ecosystem marking its expiry | W | 60% | Too early. The five-day clock Al Jazeera Arabic attached to the SNSC conditions runs to roughly 28 September. But the behavioural limb is already satisfied: the SNSC secretary restated the conditions with no reference to any clock, and Pezeshkian published a second, longer deadline — a deal before the US midterms — over the top of the first. Nobody in our corpus has marked the original as running, met or withdrawn. |
Summary: 6 confirmed, 5 partial, 0 refuted, 1 too early, against a mean stated probability of 72%. No outright miss, but five partials with one shape: the pattern renewed and the carrier moved. The split over negotiations relocated from the foreign minister to the security council. The unaudited toll stayed unaudited by ceasing to be counted. The missing attribution arrived as nobody's attribution rather than a third party's. Yesterday we told ourselves to predict that a claim would be contested rather than where the contest would move; we then wrote five predictions that named the actor and the instrument. Today we name the behaviour and the class of evidence and leave the actor open. We also retire the reception-measurement prediction into baseline — it has confirmed twice and is no longer discriminating.
Today's predictions
Review window: editorials published through ~22:00 UTC, September 25, 2026.
H1 (74%) [Type E]: An outlet publishes a datapoint or frame that cuts against its own ecosystem's position. We are widening this after yesterday's partial. Confirmation is any of: an outlet flagging missing confirmation on a claim its own side is leaning on, demanding clarification from an institution it normally relays, correcting itself to its own audience, de-dramatising a spectacle its allies are maximising, or publishing a number that complicates its own region's narrative — the Al Arabiya sixty-transit class. Refutation is a window of purely outward-directed skepticism, every check aimed at an adversary. We are testing whether these ecosystems remain internally argumentative rather than uniform relay layers.
H2 (76%) [Type E]: The aviation cordon's effects continue to be enumerated while its authorizing text stays outside our corpus. Three windows now, with the most complete compliance ledgers compiled by Israeli OSINT channels and the Jerusalem Post. Confirmation is further compliance or non-compliance items — a state, carrier, airport, ground-handler or overflight authority named as enforcing or refusing — with no outlet publishing, quoting or linking primary US Treasury text. Refutation is the operative document circulating, or a Treasury-origin item reaching us directly. We are measuring how far a policy travels through six ecosystems on a sentence none of them has read.
H3 (74%) [Type E]: Iran's two registers on negotiations both remain published, with neither retracted or reconciled. Confirmation is the corpus carrying, in the same window, an Iranian deal-seeking or inspection-openness signal directed outward and an Iranian no-diplomacy, no-fear or irreversibility signal directed inward, with no Iranian outlet placing them side by side or noting the tension. Refutation is either register being withdrawn, or an Iranian outlet explicitly addressing the contradiction. This tests whether Tehran's ecosystem is issuing two products to two audiences or converging on one line under the pressure of its own published deadline.
H4 (72%) [Type E]: Mobilisation and reassurance copy runs beside hardship arithmetic in the same Iranian feeds, unconnected. Yesterday the budget organisation's 44 million new food-coupon recipients, a labour union head's wage covering fewer than ten days, and tens of thousands enrolled in the "Jan-feda" motorcycle mobilisation across four cities were published within hours of each other by the same agencies, with only Al Arabiya naming the tension. Confirmation is a further pairing — rationing, subsidy, wage, outage or repair numbers published alongside mobilisation, unity or resilience copy, with no Iranian outlet connecting them. Refutation is an Iranian outlet drawing the link explicitly, or the hardship numbers disappearing from state feeds.
H5 (70%) [Type E]: The dominant framing of an Iranian-origin story is supplied by a non-Iranian channel, with Iranian state media arriving late in reassurance mode. The Varesh flight is the template: a dry Iranian regulatory statement, an Israeli OSINT channel's version outpacing it by an order of magnitude in reach, verb drift toward encirclement across four hops, then Iranian state media entering hours later to say flows are stable. Confirmation is a further Iranian-territory or Iranian-institution story whose most-propagated version originates outside Iran, with the Iranian primary source reaching us later or smaller. Refutation is an Iranian outlet setting the frame that other ecosystems then carry.
H6 (74%) [Type E]: Yemen's civilian ledger stays sorted by ecosystem, and the neutral aggregate is amplified by nobody. This has confirmed in every scored window. Confirmation now requires both limbs: casualty figures reaching us through resistance-axis, Iranian or Chinese relay while Gulf-owned outlets lead on sovereignty, Houthi targeting or battlefield progress, and at least one non-aligned institutional figure — a UN, IOM, OCHA or IMO count — entering the corpus and being picked up by no second source. Refutation is a Gulf outlet carrying a Sanaa-sourced count, a resistance-axis outlet carrying harm attributed to Houthi action, or a neutral aggregate travelling.
H7 (78%) [Type EW]: One institutional text is harvested selectively by ≥3 ecosystems, with at least one carriage's position visible in what it cuts. Eleven of thirteen windows, and yesterday produced three specimens in a day. Confirmation is a single text — a readout, a joint statement, a speech, a wire sequence — reaching us in three or more non-overlapping cuts where an identifiable excision or compression does editorial work. Refutation is a document travelling with its content intact across ecosystems. This is our baseline instrument and we score it as such, not as a discovery.
H8 (72%) [Type EW]: A countable event reaches us with incompatible integers from ≥3 ecosystems and no outlet reconciling them. The UNGA walkout is the cleanest case we have logged: IRNA at 77 delegations, Middle East Spectator at "almost every single delegation," AbuAliExpress and IntelSlava at "dozens," Al Arabiya at a routine Assembly tradition. Confirmation is a further countable object — transits, strikes, walkouts, casualties, displaced, vessels, flights — carried with three or more mutually inconsistent magnitudes, none of them citing another. Refutation is a count arriving with one figure across ecosystems, or any outlet publishing the discrepancy as its subject. Counting is where framing hides when framing is deniable.
H9 (68%) [Type EW]: Components of an argument about American force generation circulate separately, with no ecosystem stating the conclusion. Yesterday the suicide-attempt letter, the Lincoln's first port call in eight months and the Le Point half-the-fleet claim sat in the same feeds, and only TASS assembled them. Confirmation is two or more ecosystems carrying further capability-strain components — deployment length, maintenance, interceptor stocks, component diversion, personnel — as discrete wire items with no synthesising argument attached in the carriage. Refutation is an ecosystem publishing the assembled proposition under its own name, or the components ceasing to circulate. We are measuring a proposition that is being built without being asserted.
H10 (66%) [Type EW]: An Iranian capability or effect claim circulates in Iranian and resistance-axis carriage with no Russian or OSINT pickup. Yesterday's specimen was the IRGC's 400km American withdrawal, moving through Al Mayadeen while Russian channels carried Western reporting on American naval strain freely. Confirmation is a further interception, kill, withdrawal or reverse-engineering claim with the same distribution signature: Iranian and resistance carriage, Russian and OSINT silence, in a window where those channels carry Iranian material on other files. Refutation is a Russian milblog or OSINT channel amplifying such a claim, or an OSINT channel explicitly contesting it. Selective allied silence is a measurement; what it implies about the claim is not something our instrument can tell you.
H11 (80%) [Type W]: At least eight new named military, maritime, financial, diplomatic or casualty objects enter the corpus across ≥3 categories. Fourteen consecutive scored windows above threshold. Confirmation is a tally from the next published editorials; refutation is a structurally quiet window well below recent density. We are watching whether the diplomatic category renews now that UNGA week's supply of texts is exhausted, and whether the financial category still produces new prints once the record charter rate has been set.
H12 (58%) [Type W]: The five-day SNSC clock lapses or is superseded with no ecosystem marking it. The interval attached by Al Jazeera Arabic to Tehran's seven conditions runs to roughly 28 September, and the SNSC has already restated the conditions without it while the president published a midterms deadline over the top. Confirmation is the corpus carrying further condition restatements, or the interval's approach, with no outlet reporting the clock as running, met, missed or withdrawn. Refutation is any outlet marking it explicitly — including an Iranian outlet disowning it. We have now watched three formal instruments get dropped rather than characterised; this tests whether ultimatums decay the same way as deadlines nobody owns.
What we can't see
By design we do not monitor Western mass media directly: the CBS letter, the CNN report, the Le Point analysis, the Reuters negotiation account, the NBC interview, the Financial Times charter rate, the WSJ customs records and the Economist pieces all reached us through belligerent-aligned intermediaries, each keeping a different half. Our Telegram layer remains roughly 65% Russian milblog and state — and in these windows those channels put far more output into Ukraine than Iran, with their Iran material almost entirely reflected Western reporting, which means one of our largest source blocs has no independent collection on this file. Iran's information environment reaches us through channels curated by the long internet blackout, biasing toward sources with the infrastructure to circumvent it. Three blind spots are acute today. We still hold no primary American text for the aviation measure that has now reorganised six ecosystems' coverage for three consecutive windows. We have no forensic, insurance or salvage layer, which is why five struck bridges in Hormozgan sit in our corpus on a single outlet's word with no perpetrator named by anyone. And we withheld one item entirely — reporting of an IRGC commander killed in Iran's southeast that we could not stand up — which is the correct call and also a reminder that our corpus is a record of what circulated, not of what happened.
Check back tomorrow. We'll score every prediction above against the editorial record and tell you exactly where we were right, where we were wrong, and what the misses reveal.
