This page predicts what stories will be told, not what will happen. We observe media ecosystems — not the war, not the oil market, not the negotiations. When a prediction says "oil above $95," it is testing whether the information conditions sustaining that price floor remain intact in our corpus, not offering a commodity call. When it says "Gulf framing fractures," it is predicting how editors and state media will behave, not how governments will act.
Type E predictions are about ecosystem behavior we directly observe: who amplifies whom, which narratives gain traction, what editorial patterns emerge. Type EW predictions are about how real events get differentially constructed across ecosystems. Type W predictions are about the world — our weakest category, because we see events only through the mirrors our sources hold up. The scored track record below is a measure of how well we read those mirrors, not a measure of privileged insight into the world they reflect.
The Daily Forecast
Iran Strikes Monitor — July 29, 2026
Day 152 of the US-Israeli air campaign against Iran. Hours 3603–3627 since first strikes at ~06:10 UTC, February 28.
This forecast covers editorials #604 through #605, published between 10:00 and 22:00 UTC today. It scores yesterday's predictions against what our editorial corpus actually recorded, then offers twelve new predictions for the next 24 hours.
How this works
This observatory monitors the information environment around the US-Israeli strikes on Iran — not the war itself. We track 55 web sources and ~50 Telegram channels spanning Chinese, Russian, Iranian, Israeli, Arab, Turkish, and Global South ecosystems. Twice daily a panel of seven simulated analysts produces an editorial meta-analysis, and each cycle we publish falsifiable predictions and score them transparently. Predictions are typed: Type E (ecosystem behavior we observe directly), Type W (world events visible only through ecosystem reflections), and Type EW (how one real-world event is differentially constructed across ecosystems).
These predictions are about what stories will be told, not what will happen. When we name an oil price, an interceptor stockpile, a vessel count, or a casualty tally, we are testing whether the information conditions that keep that object visible and contested in our corpus hold — not offering a verification, a trading signal, or an intelligence estimate. By design we do not monitor Western mass media directly — NYT, WSJ, CNN, Axios, Reuters, CENTCOM, Fox — they reach us only as reflected, amplified, and reframed by the ecosystems we study, often several mirrors deep. About our methodology.
Where we are
The pause acquired a mechanism, and the mechanism is ammunition. #604 recorded the ecosystem reframing the third day of the US-Iran fire pause as an inventory problem: TASS, citing NBC News, reported US officials deliberately not intercepting every Iranian drone in order to conserve interceptors, with a parallel AP-sourced warning about depleted stocks. Trump's rebuttal — "we have a lot of ammunition" — was read as a tell, and set against Dawn's 600+ US-wounded figure the corpus assembled a case that the lull is magazine management rather than diplomatic goodwill. The interceptor economics propagate: every cheap Shahed at Erbil, on the Iraq-Saudi border, or at Abqaiq forces an expensive intercept. Follow IRGC Retaliatory Waves.
Attribution refusal has hardened into a shared weapon. Iranian drones struck Kurdish sites near the US consulate in Erbil, and while Middle East Spectator, IntelSlava, and Al Jazeera Arabic named Iran, Israeli OSINT abualiexpress flagged the operative move: "Iran does not accept responsibility, and neither does anyone else." #604 recorded the same grammar governing Abqaiq, where fires at Saudi Aramco's largest crude-processing hub produced a four-to-five-way authorship dispute — Houthis, Iraqi militias per Riyadh, an Islamic Resistance in Iraq denial, Yemen's "confusion" charge, and Iraq's arrests of cells "working for Ukraine." No strike this cycle carried a settled author, and the ambiguity served every party. Follow Strike Operations & Targets.
Tehran rolled out a Hormuz doctrine through a deputy. #605 recorded Deputy FM Gharibabadi's television availability pushed near-verbatim across Farsna, ISNA, Mehr, IRNA, and Al Mayadeen within minutes — the synchronization itself the signal. The construction: Hormuz is "a newly discovered defensive capacity," a return to its pre-war status would mean "our victory in the war is not complete," and Iran now behaves "like a country that is not an NPT member." Released through a deputy, the NPT-withdrawal line is deniable and reversible — a trial balloon, not a rupture. Around it, competing chokepoint-governance frameworks multiplied: Oman's Malacca-style voluntary-fee mechanism, a Politico-reported push for a British-French naval coalition and London demining conference, and CENTCOM's standing interdiction. Follow Strait of Hormuz & Oil.
A de-escalation vocabulary is emerging in stereo, even as the strikes continue. #604 recorded Al Jazeera, Reuters-via-BBC Persian, and FT-via-Almayadeen all deploying "flexibility" for Iran and the UAE inside the same twelve hours, wrapped around Oman's "voluntary fees" proposal — convergence on one word fast enough to read as coordinated ladder-descent. The market appeared to price the track, with the dominant narrative putting Brent below $87 on "diplomatic hopes" even as Abqaiq burned. The corpus's own resolution to that puzzle was the datapoint no belligerent would voice: Caixin's note that weakening Chinese crude demand is a structural stabilizer. Follow Negotiations & Ceasefire Diplomacy.
Yesterday's scorecard
We score the previous forecast's twelve predictions against what #604 and #605 recorded.
| # | Prediction | Type | P | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| H1 | Abqaiq/Saudi attribution stays multi-authored | E | 86% | Confirmed — the same fires drew a four-to-five-way dispute: Houthi claim, Riyadh blaming Iraqi militias, an Islamic Resistance in Iraq denial, Yemen's "confusion" charge, and Iraq's "Ukraine cells" arrests. No settled author. |
| H2 | Neutrality-branded aggregator hardens an agenda pre-first-party | E | 85% | Confirmed — the "Iran will strike Ukraine" claim originated in Ukrainian monitoring channels, was amplified by Readovka and Russian milblogs, then refuted by MES — a full relay chain with no first party in view. TASS relayed NBC/AP the same way. |
| H3 | Trump saturates every ecosystem; Iran answers terse | E | 84% | Partial — Trump's Fox interview did saturate (via AJA, Solovyov, AbuAliExpress). But Iran did not stay low-bandwidth: Gharibabadi's doctrinal rollout was pushed near-verbatim across five channels at once. Iran matched the volume — the refutation condition we wrote. |
| H4 | Mediators signal progress while principals deny talking | E | 81% | Confirmed — Oman's fee mechanism, the Politico Britain-France coalition push, and China-Houthi safe-passage talks ran co-present with Iran's Majlis "requested no talks" and Trump's "very friendly talks." |
| H5 | Russian layer stays verbal, Iran-secondary | E | 81% | Confirmed — Peskov reframed the Caspian strike as "an attack on Iran itself," Rozhin drew the Black-Sea analogy, and Putin praised the "mosquito fleet" — solidarity as rhetoric, deterrence withheld. |
| H6 | Iranian domestic register fuses mobilization + repression | E | 80% | Confirmed — Arbaeen's 6-million projection and Revolution Square chants ran co-present with two Isfahan executions and a judiciary warning against wartime surveillance. The succession cue was faint, but the mobilization-repression seam was explicit. |
| H7 | Blockade is casus belli in one register, lawful interdiction in another | EW | 84% | Confirmed — CENTCOM via AJA framed 18 diversions, two disablings, two boardings as routine interdiction; Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya converted the ship-compensation scheme into a Hormuz-transit forfeiture threat. |
| H8 | Western/US utterances reach us only through mirrors | EW | 84% | Confirmed — Trump's Fox interview arrived "entirely through reflection," the Netanyahu-Washington picture through a NY Post leak, Politico through cig_telegram, FT through ISNA. Near-total again. |
| H9 | Casualty ledgers stay partitioned | EW | 82% | Confirmed — Iran's 350 dead employees, the Majdal Shams twelve, Yemen's airport collapse (solely on Almasirah), Lebanon's 4,333, and Gaza's 73,333 ran in non-overlapping books. No source held two. |
| H10 | Market data adjudicate the "wrong strait" while attribution circulates unassessed | EW | 81% | Confirmed — Brent below $87 and Caixin's soft-demand note served as instruments against the wholly unadjudicated Abqaiq authorship; abualiexpress's lone $100 claim stood ~15% off every other source. |
| H11 | ≥5 new named objects enter the corpus | W | 85% | Confirmed — the Toska/dialysis ship, Bushehr Airport, the Bampur "sanatorium," Khomeyn (launch site), the Malacca-style fee mechanism, the London demining conference, and the twelve bridges. Well past five. |
| H12 | Oil/shipping indicators stay contested and partial | W | 75% | Confirmed — Brent sub-$87 against the $100 outlier, Caixin's demand note, and China-Houthi bilateral talks circulated with no consolidated series adopted across ecosystems. |
Summary: 10 confirmed, 1 partial, 0 refuted (~96% directionally correct, ~83% clean confirmations). The single miss (H3) is the instructive one. We predicted a two-speaker velocity asymmetry — Trump loud, Iran terse — and Iran spent the window doing the opposite, running a coordinated Gharibabadi doctrine rollout across five channels in minutes. The lesson: the asymmetry we kept confirming was never structural; it held only while Iran had nothing it wanted broadcast. When Tehran chooses to saturate, it can, and our prediction should be conditioned on whether Iran is carrying a message, not on a fixed bandwidth gap between the two capitals.
Today's predictions
Review window: editorials published by ~22:00 UTC, July 29, 2026.
H1 (86%) [Type E]: The pause stays narrated as an interceptor-economics problem, with depletion and conservation framings co-present. #604 recorded TASS-via-NBC/AP claims that the US is deliberately letting drones through to conserve interceptors, against Trump's "we have a lot of ammunition" denial. Confirmation is ≥2 ecosystems carrying incompatible readings of US or Iranian munition stocks — deliberate conservation, forced depletion, or abundance — within the window. Refutation is the ammunition frame dropping out, or a single authoritative stock figure being adopted across ecosystems. We are pricing whether "magazine management" remains the corpus's dominant explanation for the lull, not verifying any inventory.
H2 (85%) [Type E]: Attribution refusal persists as a shared tactic — at least one strike enters the corpus with no party accepting authorship. #604 recorded Erbil struck with "Iran does not accept responsibility, and neither does anyone else," and Abqaiq drawing a four-to-five-way dispute. Confirmation is ≥1 kinetic event (Erbil/Sulaymaniyah, Abqaiq/Eastern Province, a Jordan-border or base strike) carried with either no claimed author or ≥2 incompatible authors co-present. Refutation is convergence on a single agreed author, or the strikes ceasing. We observe the authorship contest directly and take no position on who acted.
H3 (82%) [Type E]: The Iranian ecosystem keeps Gharibabadi's Hormuz-and-NPT doctrine circulating as a synchronized, deniable trial balloon. #605 recorded the doctrine pushed near-verbatim across Farsna, ISNA, Mehr, IRNA, and Al Mayadeen — Hormuz as "newly discovered defensive capacity," Iran behaving "like a country that is not an NPT member." Confirmation is the doctrine's core lines re-appearing across ≥2 Iranian or resistance-axis channels, still attributed to a deputy or spokesman rather than the leadership. Refutation is the NPT line either escalating to a leadership-level declaration or being walked back. We watch how a maximalist claim is kept reversible, not whether Iran leaves the NPT.
H4 (81%) [Type E]: A de-escalation vocabulary — "flexibility," "voluntary fees," Oman's mechanism — stays co-present with first-party denials of negotiation. #604 recorded Al Jazeera, BBC Persian, and Almayadeen all deploying "flexibility" inside twelve hours around Oman's fee proposal, against Iran's "requested no talks." Confirmation is ≥1 mediator-track signal (Oman, Qatar, China, a London/European convening) co-present with ≥1 principal denial of direct talks. Refutation is the mediator vocabulary vanishing, or a principal openly confirming negotiations. We measure the gap between front-channel defiance and third-party de-escalation reporting.
H5 (81%) [Type E]: The Russian layer keeps welding the Caspian/Ukraine strand into the Iran file — solidarity as narrative, not materiel. #604 and #605 recorded Peskov calling the Ukrainian strike "an attack on Iran itself," Rozhin analogizing it to Russia's Black Sea interdiction, and Putin's "mosquito fleet" praise. Confirmation is Russian-aligned channels engaging Iran where a narrative flex is available (Ukraine-Caspian, "Ukraine cells," US-depletion) while offering rhetoric over commitment. Refutation is Moscow pledging concrete support or dropping the Iran-Ukraine welding. We predict the posture, not the landing point. Follow Regional Focus: Russia.
H6 (80%) [Type E]: The Iranian domestic register keeps fusing Arbaeen mobilization with an execution or repression signal in one frame. #605 recorded Revolution Square chants and Nasrallah's "awakened Arab peoples" testimony co-present with two Isfahan executions and a judiciary warning against wartime surveillance. Confirmation is ≥1 religious-mobilization or vengeance frame co-present with ≥1 repression or dissent-management signal. Refutation is a unified triumphal register with no visible coercion beneath it. We watch a leadership improvising cohesion by ritual and gallows at once. Follow Khamenei: Death & Succession.
H7 (83%) [Type EW]: The Hormuz chokepoint is constructed as incompatible governance objects — sovereign leverage, extortion, and a burden-sharing coalition problem — within the same cycle. #605 recorded Oman's voluntary-fee model, Iran's rejection of the 50/50 split, the Politico British-French coalition push, and Iran's threat that accepting Trump's compensation scheme forfeits transit. Confirmation is the strait appearing in ≥2 ecosystems performing incompatible functions — sovereign right, piracy/coercion, or naval burden-sharing. Refutation is the strait carrying one shared function across the corpus. This tests divergence in use, not the underlying naval activity. Follow Strait of Hormuz & Oil.
H8 (84%) [Type EW]: Western and American utterances — including any Netanyahu-Washington or Trump output — reach our corpus only through adversary and bystander mirrors. #604 and #605 delivered the Netanyahu picture through a NY Post leak, Trump's Fox interview through AJA, Solovyov, and AbuAliExpress, and Politico through cig_telegram. Confirmation is ≥1 US-internal utterance entering exclusively through non-US amplification. Refutation is a US-origin story reaching us first-party — which our instrument flags as a relay anomaly, not a content judgment. This is a structural feature of what we monitor, restated as a falsifiable test.
H9 (82%) [Type EW]: Casualty and human-cost ledgers stay partitioned, with Yemen's and the blockade's civilian toll surviving on single channels. #604 and #605 ran Iran's 350 dead employees, the Majdal Shams twelve, Lebanon's 4,333, and Gaza's toll as separate books, with Yemen's airport collapse carried almost solely by Almasirah. Confirmation is ≥2 human-cost categories carried without cross-reference, with at least one theater (Yemen, the naval blockade) present on a single ecosystem. Refutation is any source holding two ledgers, or a neutral body publishing a cross-theater tally. Every ecosystem broadcasting the dead who indict its adversary and muting those who indict itself remains the pattern.
H10 (80%) [Type EW]: The reported end-of-window missile launches generate a vector-vs-target split — OSINT and Russian aggregators claim impacts while Iranian state channels stay conspicuously silent. #605 recorded six ballistic launches from Khomeyn sourced to IntelSlava, with Arab-axis channels claiming impacts at a US base in Jordan and Iranian state channels silent — the ecosystem "had the vector right and the target wrong." Confirmation is ≥1 operational strike claim carried by OSINT/Russian relays and either contradicted on target or unacknowledged by Iranian state media within the window. Refutation is Iran officially claiming the launch, or independent first-party confirmation of the target entering our corpus. We test who narrates a launch and who stays silent — silence is data.
H11 (85%) [Type W]: At least five new named military, maritime, infrastructure, financial, or casualty objects enter the editorial corpus. #604 and #605 produced the Toska dialysis ship, Bushehr Airport, the Bampur "sanatorium," Khomeyn, the Malacca-style fee mechanism, and the London demining conference. The Hormuz-governance fight, the Iraq launch-platform vector, and the widening Yemen-Saudi front keep naming density well above baseline. Confirmation is a tally from the next published editorial; refutation is a structurally quiet window far below recent density. The verdict is read from what the ecosystems choose to name.
H12 (75%) [Type W]: Oil, shipping, and war-risk indicators stay contested and partial — a Brent anchor near the high-$80s circulates against outliers with no consolidated series. #604 carried Brent below $87 on "diplomatic hopes," Caixin's soft-Chinese-demand stabilizer, and a lone abualiexpress $100 claim ~15% off consensus, with Abqaiq burning and no shared figure adopted. Confirmation is ≥2 price, traffic, export, or premium figures co-present without a common source. Refutation is a single authoritative number adopted across ecosystems — the most consequential convergence we could log on this file. We are testing whether the commercial ledger stays fragmented, not where any number lands. Follow Strait of Hormuz & Oil.
What we can't see
By design we do not monitor Western mass media directly — NYT, WSJ, CNN, Axios, Reuters, CENTCOM, Fox — and this cycle was mirror-thick: Trump's Fox interview, the Netanyahu-Washington leak, the Politico coalition report, and the NBC/AP interceptor claims all reached us reflected through ecosystems with a stake in how they landed. Iran's information environment still reaches us through state-curated channels degraded by the long internet blackout, biasing our corpus toward sources with the infrastructure to circumvent it — which is why Gharibabadi's doctrine and Arbaeen mobilization travel at full volume while the Isfahan-execution and interior-dissent stories surface faintly, leaving the regime's interior our least-lit terrain. Three blind spots are acute this cycle: we cannot independently adjudicate the Abqaiq attribution or the reported Khomeyn launches, both of which reach us only through OSINT and Russian aggregators; we see the interceptor-depletion claim only as a TASS-relayed reflection of US reporting; and our Telegram corpus remains ~65% Russian-aligned at the exact moment that layer is instrumentalizing the Caspian and Gulf files, making it simultaneously our largest relay and an unreliable narrator of the beat it is half-covering.
