This page predicts what stories will be told, not what will happen. We observe media ecosystems — not the war, not the oil market, not the negotiations. When a prediction says "oil above $95," it is testing whether the information conditions sustaining that price floor remain intact in our corpus, not offering a commodity call. When it says "Gulf framing fractures," it is predicting how editors and state media will behave, not how governments will act.
Type E predictions are about ecosystem behavior we directly observe: who amplifies whom, which narratives gain traction, what editorial patterns emerge. Type EW predictions are about how real events get differentially constructed across ecosystems. Type W predictions are about the world — our weakest category, because we see events only through the mirrors our sources hold up. The scored track record below is a measure of how well we read those mirrors, not a measure of privileged insight into the world they reflect.
The Daily Forecast
Iran Strikes Monitor — July 28, 2026
Day 151 of the US-Israeli air campaign against Iran. Hours 3579–3603 since first strikes at ~06:10 UTC, February 28.
This forecast covers editorials #602 through #603, published between 09:00 and 22:00 UTC in the most recent cycle. It scores the previous forecast's twelve predictions against what our editorial corpus actually recorded, then offers twelve new predictions for the next 24 hours.
How this works
This observatory monitors the information environment around the US-Israeli strikes on Iran — not the war itself. We track 55 web sources and ~50 Telegram channels spanning Chinese, Russian, Iranian, Israeli, Arab, Turkish, and Global South ecosystems. Twice daily a panel of seven simulated analysts produces an editorial meta-analysis, and each cycle we publish falsifiable predictions and score them transparently. Predictions are typed: Type E (ecosystem behavior we observe directly), Type W (world events visible only through ecosystem reflections), and Type EW (how one real-world event is differentially constructed across ecosystems).
These predictions are about what stories will be told, not what will happen. When we name an oil price, a tanker count, an export volume, or a casualty tally, we are testing whether the information conditions that keep that object visible and contested in our corpus hold — not offering a verification, a trading signal, or an intelligence estimate. By design we do not monitor Western mass media directly — NYT, WSJ, CNN, Axios, Reuters, CENTCOM — they reach us only as reflected, amplified, and reframed by the ecosystems we study, often several mirrors deep. About our methodology.
Where we are
The defining information event was an attribution, not a strike. #603 recorded fires at Saudi Aramco's Abqaiq stabilization complex surfacing first as "unconfirmed reports" from Middle East Spectator, hardening into satellite imagery via IntelSlava, then splitting into four mutually incompatible authors within hours: Yemen's armed forces claimed it, the Saudi Defense Ministry attributed it to "Iran-backed militias from Iraqi territory," and the Islamic Resistance in Iraq did the rare thing of explicitly denying responsibility. The information environment manufactured an actor faster than anyone could verify one — and the choice to blame Iraq over Yemen reads across ecosystems as a framing decision with a strategic payload, an author Riyadh can plausibly threaten in place of one it cannot. Follow Strike Operations & Targets.
The US-Iran track is being narrated as two different games at two different volumes. #603 recorded Trump generating a dozen quotable lines — "friendly negotiations," "Iran is begging for a deal," "we hold all the cards," alongside a threat to "attack very powerfully" — saturating every ecosystem, while Iran's Foreign Ministry answered with a single terse line ("no negotiations… not bound to any ceasefire") that struggled for bandwidth. Underneath the public denials, mediator ecosystems tell a quieter story: AP via solovievlive reports Qatari and Pakistani mediators seeing "progress," and alhadath carries a source claiming China is pressuring Iran to soften on Hormuz. Follow Negotiations & Ceasefire Diplomacy.
Washington substituted a maritime blockade for the paused air campaign, and Tehran is narrating it as casus belli. With strikes paused a third day and oil down ~9% to ~$88, CENTCOM via Rudaw was reported intercepting or rerouting nearly 20 Iran-bound vessels; Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters declared any US enforcement "an expansion of war." Meanwhile the ecosystems anchor on the Hormuz pause while IntelSlava and boris_rozhin report Saudi crude exports down ~50% under the Houthi blockade and Abqaiq — 99% of Saudi crude stabilization — reportedly offline: a far larger supply event than anything at the strait. Follow Strait of Hormuz & Oil.
The great-power layer is conspicuous for what Moscow withholds. #603 recorded Lavrov phoning condolences over the Ukrainian strike on the Iranian vessel "Anna" and Peskov calling Kyiv "aggressive" — sympathy, not deterrence — while Iran's ambassador plaintively "expects Russia" to act. Layered on top is pure theater: Trump saying he will "ask Putin" about Zelensky's claim that Russia passed Iran satellite imagery of US bases, an accusation built to be denied. Iran's assurance that it will preserve "special passage" for Russian ships through Hormuz shows plainly who pays tribute to whom. Follow Regional Focus: Russia.
Yesterday's scorecard
We score the previous forecast's twelve predictions against what #603 recorded.
| # | Prediction | Type | P | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| H1 | Pause remains a contested object, incompatible meanings co-present | E | 85% | Confirmed — Trump narrated a coercion ladder ("Iran is begging"), Tehran narrated US exhaustion ("not bound to any ceasefire"), and Washington's maritime blockade was read simultaneously as de-escalation and escalation. Two speakers, two games, one paused strike. |
| H2 | Neutrality-branded aggregator sets a regional agenda before a first-party source appears | E | 85% | Confirmed — the Abqaiq scramble was textbook: Middle East Spectator flagged "unconfirmed" reports, IntelSlava hardened them into satellite imagery, four incompatible authors assembled, and MES broke analytic character to editorialize — no first-party verification anywhere. |
| H3 | Aligned amplifiers keep hedging battle-damage imagery | E | 80% | Partial — with the air campaign paused a third day, no new kill/damage imagery surfaced to hedge. The managed-visibility meta-pattern held (Pentagon revising the wounded count, four US deaths relabeled) but the specific aligned-hedge-of-imagery behavior had no material to act on. |
| H4 | Iranian factional seam stays visible | E | 81% | Confirmed — a Mojtaba succession signal that "negotiation isn't forbidden" ran co-present with imminent Isfahan executions and a manufactured 78% IRIB consent poll: hardline frame, pragmatist door ajar, repression underneath. |
| H5 | Russian layer stays transactional and Iran-secondary | E | 80% | Confirmed — every solidarity signal was verbal (Lavrov condolences, Peskov's "sovereign state," "ask Putin about the imagery") while Iran preserved "special passage" for Russian ships. Sympathy extracted, deterrence withheld. |
| H6 | Caspian/Ukraine strand persists, welding two theaters | E | 78% | Confirmed — the "Anna" strike, Lavrov's condolences, Peskov's condemnation, L'Orient's read of the strike as a bid for Trump's favor, and CNN's "Caspian newest arena" all consolidated the two-theater narrative rather than dropping it. |
| H7 | Same event does opposite work across ecosystems | EW | 83% | Confirmed — a single Abqaiq attack became four incompatible authors, and the Minab schoolchildren were worked as a transnational emotional engine (projected in Najaf, painted at Chazabeh) against a geopolitical Gulf register. |
| H8 | Western/US utterances reach us only through mirrors | EW | 84% | Confirmed — Trump's dozen lines (via MES, abualiexpress), AP (via solovievlive), the Pentagon revision (via Kashmir Observer, BBCPersian), and CENTCOM (via Rudaw) all arrived reflected. Near-total again. |
| H9 | Casualty ledgers stay partitioned | EW | 82% | Confirmed — Iran's ~670 injured/60 killed, the Pentagon's 624+ wounded, the four relabeled US deaths, the blockade's uncounted human cost, and the Gaza 73,329 baseline ran in mutually non-overlapping books. No source held two. |
| H10 | Behavioral/market data adjudicate while status/damage claims circulate unassessed | EW | 80% | Confirmed — oil at ~$88, ~20 intercepted vessels, Saudi exports down ~50%, and supertankers-to-China at a since-April high served as instrument signals against the wholly unadjudicated Abqaiq authorship claims. |
| H11 | ≥5 new named objects enter the corpus | W | 85% | Confirmed — Abqaiq, the "Anna," Ali-Khani/"Ali-Khani Square," Khatam al-Anbiya Central HQ, the Chazabeh crossing, and Mojtaba's message to Hezbollah. Well past five. |
| H12 | Oil/shipping indicators stay contested and partial | W | 74% | Confirmed — oil −9% to ~$88, Saudi exports −50%, ~20 vessels rerouted, Abqaiq 99% suspended, supertankers-to-China at a since-April peak: multiple uncorroborating figures, no consolidated series adopted. |
Summary: 11 confirmed, 1 partial, 0 refuted (~100% directionally correct, ~92% clean confirmations). A fourth consecutive clean directional cycle. The single partial (H3) repeats a familiar shape with a new cause: the behavior we predicted didn't fail, its driver went quiet — a paused air campaign produced no fresh battle-damage imagery to hedge. The lesson we keep applying: predict the ecosystem behavior, but recognize that a behavior tied to a specific kinetic input goes dormant when the input does, and price that dependency into the probability rather than the verdict.
Today's predictions
Review window: editorials published by ~22:00 UTC, July 28, 2026.
H1 (86%) [Type E]: The Abqaiq/Saudi attribution scramble stays multi-authored — the same attack is assigned incompatible authors co-present in the corpus. #603 recorded four mutually incompatible authors (Yemen, Iraqi militias, an Iraqi denial) assembling within hours. Confirmation is ≥2 ecosystems carrying incompatible attributions of the Abqaiq/Saudi drone events within the window, or the Iraqi-versus-Yemen authorship fight persisting unresolved. Refutation is convergence on a single agreed author, or the story dropping out. We are pricing the ecosystems' competition to name an actor, not the identity of the actor.
H2 (85%) [Type E]: A neutrality-branded aggregator again originates or hardens a regional agenda before a first-party source appears. #603 recorded Middle East Spectator flagging "unconfirmed" Abqaiq reports, IntelSlava hardening them into satellite imagery, and MES breaking character to editorialize. Confirmation is ≥1 aggregator-originated or aggregator-relayed claim crossing three or more ecosystem waypoints with the underlying source unseen in our corpus. Refutation is these channels returning to terse geolocation only, or a claim entering already first-party-sourced. We observe the relay directly and take no position on the claim's truth.
H3 (84%) [Type E]: The two-speaker velocity asymmetry persists — Trump's utterances saturate every ecosystem while Iran's official register answers terse and low-bandwidth. #603 recorded a dozen quotable Trump lines against a single Iranian Foreign Ministry sentence. Confirmation is ≥1 Trump utterance appearing across ≥3 ecosystems co-present with a markedly sparser, lower-frequency Iranian official response. Refutation is Iran matching the volume with a saturation campaign of its own, or Trump falling silent in our corpus. We measure the bandwidth gap between two principals narrating different games, not the substance of either.
H4 (81%) [Type E]: Mediator ecosystems keep signaling de-escalation progress while both principals publicly deny talking. #603 recorded AP via solovievlive reporting Qatari and Pakistani mediators seeing "progress" and alhadath claiming Chinese pressure on Hormuz — against public denials from both Trump and Tehran. Confirmation is ≥1 mediator-ecosystem signal (Qatar, Pakistan, Oman, China) of back-channel movement co-present with ≥1 first-party denial of negotiations. Refutation is the mediator signals vanishing, or a principal openly confirming talks. We watch the gap between front-channel defiance and third-party de-escalation reporting.
H5 (81%) [Type E]: The Russian layer stays verbal and Iran-secondary — solidarity expressed as rhetoric, deterrence withheld. #603 recorded Lavrov's condolences, Peskov's "sovereign state," the "ask Putin" theater, and Iran preserving "special passage" for Russian ships. Confirmation is Russian-aligned channels engaging the Iran file where a narrative flex is available (Ukraine-Caspian, US-fracture, the satellite-imagery accusation) while offering sympathy rather than material commitment. Refutation is Moscow re-centering Iran as a primary solidarity file or pledging concrete support. We predict the posture, not the landing point. Follow Regional Focus: Russia.
H6 (80%) [Type E]: The Iranian domestic register keeps fusing Arbaeen martyrdom-vengeance mobilization with a repression signal and a Mojtaba succession cue in the same frame. #603 recorded "red flags of vengeance" processions co-present with imminent Isfahan executions and a leadership-office signal that Mojtaba "does not consider negotiation forbidden." Confirmation is ≥1 religious-mobilization/vengeance frame co-present with ≥1 repression or dissent-management signal, or a succession cue held inside a hardline frame. Refutation is a unified triumphal register with no visible seam or coercion beneath it. We watch a leadership improvising cohesion by ritual and gallows. Follow Khamenei: Death & Succession.
H7 (84%) [Type EW]: The maritime blockade is constructed as casus belli in one register and lawful interdiction in another, within the same cycle. #603 recorded Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya calling US enforcement "an expansion of war" while CENTCOM via Rudaw framed the same ~20 vessel intercepts as routine interdiction. Confirmation is the blockade appearing in ≥2 ecosystems performing incompatible functions — act of war versus law enforcement versus sanctions compliance. Refutation is the blockade carrying one function across the corpus, or dropping out. This tests divergence in use, not the underlying naval activity. Follow Strait of Hormuz & Oil.
H8 (84%) [Type EW]: Western and American utterances reach our corpus only through adversary and bystander mirrors. #603 delivered Trump's lines, AP, CNN, the Pentagon revision, and CENTCOM entirely reflected through MES, solovievlive, Rudaw, Kashmir Observer, and BBCPersian. Confirmation is ≥1 US-internal utterance entering exclusively through non-US amplification. Refutation is a US-origin story reaching us first-party — which our instrument would flag as an anomaly in the relay chain, not the content. This is a structural feature of what we monitor, restated as a falsifiable test.
H9 (82%) [Type EW]: Casualty and human-cost ledgers stay partitioned, and the blockade's civilian cost stays asserted-but-uncounted. #603 ran Iran's toll, the Pentagon's revised wounded, the relabeled US deaths, and the Gaza baseline as separate books, while the downstream human cost of the naval blockade on 90 million people was asserted as rhetoric and counted by none. Confirmation is ≥2 human-cost categories carried without cross-reference, with the blockade's civilian impact present only as rhetoric. Refutation is any single source holding two ledgers, or a neutral body publishing a specific blockade-attributed civilian tally. Every ecosystem broadcasting the dead who indict its adversary and muting those who indict itself remains the pattern.
H10 (81%) [Type EW]: Market and tracking data adjudicate the "wrong strait" while attribution and damage claims circulate unassessed. #603 recorded oil pricing, ~20 tracked vessel intercepts, and Saudi export volumes serving as instruments against the wholly unadjudicated Abqaiq authorship. Confirmation is ≥1 claim resolved by price, tracking, or a physical reroute co-present with ≥1 attribution or damage claim circulating without independent assessment. Refutation is the Abqaiq imagery acquiring adjudication, or the instruments producing contested rather than converging figures. The asymmetry we test is between instruments, not belligerents. Follow Strait of Hormuz & Oil.
H11 (85%) [Type W]: At least five new named military, maritime, infrastructure, financial, or casualty objects enter the editorial corpus. #603 produced Abqaiq, the "Anna," Ali-Khani Square, Khatam al-Anbiya Central HQ, the Chazabeh crossing, and Mojtaba's Hezbollah message. The widening Yemen-Saudi front, the maritime blockade, and the Caspian theater keep naming density well above baseline. Confirmation is a tally from the next published editorial. Refutation is a structurally quiet window far below recent density. The verdict is read from what the ecosystems choose to name.
H12 (75%) [Type W]: Oil, shipping, and war-risk indicators stay contested and partial — the Hormuz-pause anchor and the Saudi-supply shock circulate as uncorroborating figures with no consolidated series. #603 carried oil at ~$88 (−9%), Saudi exports down ~50%, Abqaiq 99% suspended, ~20 rerouted vessels, and supertankers-to-China at a since-April peak with no shared series. Confirmation is ≥2 price, traffic, export, or premium figures co-present without a common source. Refutation is a single authoritative number adopted across ecosystems — the most consequential convergence we could log on this file. We are testing whether the commercial ledger stays fragmented, not where any number lands. Follow Strait of Hormuz & Oil.
What we can't see
By design we do not monitor Western mass media directly — NYT, WSJ, CNN, Axios, Reuters, CENTCOM — and this cycle was mirror-thick: Trump's saturation lines, the AP mediator report, the CNN Caspian frame, and the Pentagon casualty revision all reached us through relays with a stake in how they landed. Iran's information environment still reaches us through state-curated channels degraded by the long internet blackout, biasing our corpus toward sources with the infrastructure to circumvent it — which is why vengeance-procession imagery travels at full volume while the Isfahan-execution and domestic-dissent stories surface faintly, leaving the regime's interior our least-lit terrain. Three blind spots are acute: we cannot independently adjudicate the Abqaiq attribution or any frame of the satellite imagery that hardened it; we see the Caspian "Anna" strike only through Iranian, Russian, and aggregator relays; and our Telegram corpus remains ~65% Russian-aligned at the exact moment that layer is engaging the Gulf opportunistically, making it simultaneously our largest relay and an unreliable narrator of the beat it is half-covering.
