The Daily Forecast

Iran Strikes Monitor — September 11, 2026

Day 196 of the US-Israeli air campaign against Iran. Hours 4659–4683 since first strikes at ~06:10 UTC, February 28.

This forecast covers editorials #653 through #654, published at 10:07 and 22:05 UTC on September 10. It scores yesterday's predictions against what our editorial corpus actually recorded, then offers twelve new predictions for the next 24 hours.

How this works

This observatory monitors the information environment around the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, not the war itself. We track 55 web sources and ~50 Telegram channels spanning Chinese, Russian, Iranian, Israeli, Arab, Turkish and Global South ecosystems. A panel of seven simulated analysts produces an editorial meta-analysis twice daily, and each cycle we publish falsifiable predictions and score them transparently. Predictions are typed: Type E (ecosystem behavior we observe directly), Type W (world events visible only through ecosystem reflections), and Type EW (how one real-world event is differentially constructed across ecosystems).

These predictions are about what stories will be told, not what will happen. When we name a barrel price, a base or a casualty figure, we are testing whether the information conditions that keep that object visible and contested in our corpus hold — not offering a verification, a trading signal or an intelligence estimate. By design we do not monitor Western mass media directly — AP, WSJ, Reuters, CNN, CBS, Guardian, Bloomberg, Washington Post, Financial Times. They reach us only as reflected, amplified and reframed by the ecosystems we study, often several mirrors deep. About our methodology.

Where we are

A victory claim hardened into flat declarative consensus, sourced entirely from the side that lost it. In #654, every confirmation of the Ansarallah capture of Mokha traced to Yemeni government officials: Al Mayadeen relaying AFP citing "a government military official and witnesses" at 09:23 UTC, BBC Persian carrying Reuters citing three government officials at 10:44, the Hanish islands from "government military sources" by 13:26. Within hours it was declarative in Xinhua, Naharnet, Daily Sabah and AzerNews. Meanwhile Al Mayadeen's own correspondent flagged twice that there was no official statement from Sanaa, and Mehr and Press TV were publishing entry footage anyway. An entire ecosystem documented a victory its own principal had not claimed. When Sanaa finally spoke, the register was reassurance — navigation "safe and regular" — not triumph.

Two ecosystems are now keeping an American war-economy scoreboard in public. Brent ran from above $100 to past $109 across the two windows; US diesel cleared $6 a gallon for the first time. ISNA published a 54-days-to-the-midterms table of US gasoline and diesel averages; a Russian milblogger thanked the American president by name and patronymic for the oil price. This is the direct consequence of the Dallas convention promise in #653 — a victory denominated in two-dollar gasoline gives both adversary ecosystems a public, daily, externally-verified instrument to score it with. The number nobody is narrating is the US 30-year yield at 5.36 percent. Follow Strait of Hormuz & Oil.

Two objects became load-bearing across every ecosystem at once, which is rare. The IRGC's captured Anduril Dive-LD travelled through Iranian state, Russian milblog, Gulf pan-Arab, Persian-service and South African outlets — because the manufacturer's own founder authenticated the identification. And the CBS report of an A-10 losing a wing and roughly eight F-15s damaged at Muwaffaq Salti crossed the same lines, drifting in transit: IRNA and ISNA rendered it as "nine American fighter jets." The airframe distinctions collapsed; the count survived. The IRGC's own announced target set — maintenance hangars and hardened shelters, not runways — travelled far less than the American network's report of American losses.

A deterrence architecture was disambiguated downward in a single cycle. Islamabad says no military response under the Mecca Defense Agreement is under discussion; Ankara says it is "not talking about activating" it. Middle East Spectator issued a "PSA" announcing it will henceforth call the pact the "Mecca Discussion Panel" or "Paper Pact" — and AbuAliExpress reported Shiite-axis channels taunting the Saudi crown prince over when Pakistan and Turkey arrive. The derision is bilateral and the naming is now the object. Follow Global South & Middle Powers.

Yesterday's scorecard

These predictions were written for the window they were tested in — editorials published by ~22:00 UTC September 10. The hit rate below is not discounted.

# Prediction Type P Verdict
H1 Iranian carriage rests on ≥3 distinct named Western sources E 80% Confirmed, and the diversity held this time. Reuters on the Anduril reverse-engineering assessment (IRNA, ISNA); CBS on the Jordan base damage (IRNA, ISNA); the WSJ long-war leak (IRNA); US retail fuel averages (ISNA's midterm scoreboard). Four institutions, four categories — not one Pentagon self-report.
H2 Pickaxe–White Sands weld travels into ≥2 further ecosystems, provenance dropped E 74% Refuted. The weld did not travel at all. The site reappeared in #654 re-anchored to a different source entirely — the IAEA and Grossi — and the aggregator's two-document inference vanished within one cycle. Inference laundering is not automatically stable; it can be displaced by an institutional claim about the same object.
H3 Prohibited zone: ≥2 incompatible readings plus a named vessel or enforcement instance E 72% Partial. The incompatible readings persisted — People's Daily reported Tehran extending the exclusion area without comment, teleSUR published "Irán consolida control sobre estrecho de Ormuz" as straight news, Iranian media argued the energy market contradicts the American control narrative. UKMTO supplied an enforcement-shaped event — four projectiles, two vessels near Khasab — but no outlet connected it to the declared zone, and no hull was named.
H4 An outlet applies claim hygiene to its own ecosystem's material E 68% Confirmed, fourth consecutive window, and the cleanest instance yet. Al Mayadeen's correspondent and Yemen bureau chief both flagged the absence of any Sanaa statement while the rest of the resistance-aligned ecosystem published entry footage. Middle East Spectator had done the same on Sirik.
H5 Two ecosystems cover one country with non-overlapping event sets E 76% Confirmed. Press TV, Mehr and Fars covered the coastal advance at a civilian cost of zero — freed captives, seized armour, residents welcoming the column. The counter-frame lived almost entirely in Anadolu (women and children killed in a convoy to Aden) and Al Arabiya (the PLC kill-zone declaration). OSINTdefender denied the capture outright while three other outlets reported it.
H6 A single aggregator translates for ≥3 ecosystems in one window E 70% Confirmed. AbuAliExpress credited the Houthi advance as an "impressive achievement," annotated its own pro-Houthi source as "too generous," relayed Shiite-axis taunts at the Saudi crown prince, carried the Lebanese Health Ministry's cumulative toll, and surfaced Hezbollah-linked channels asking about bodies in the Ali al-Taher tunnels.
H7 Independent finding on Iranian civilian harm present, uncarried by Iranian state EW 70% Refuted, on a scoping error we should name. No independent finding about Iranian civilian harm entered the corpus at all. The adjacent test ran the other way: IRNA did carry the HRW white-phosphorus finding on Lebanon — the half pointing outward — and dropped the cluster-munitions half.
H8 Iran processes the IAEA referral as legal architecture; Gulf/Israeli lead on vote arithmetic EW 78% Partial. The divergence was real and sharper than we predicted, but it ran through verbs, not legal instruments. Al Arabiya and Radio Farda headlined the agency "confirming" activity at Pickaxe Mountain; ISNA headlined "Grossi's claim," Mehr "alleged, on the basis of unreliable information." That is a factual contest about evidentiary standing. Grossi's own hedge survived in one outlet.
H9 Iranian factions cite the same Majlis polling to opposite conclusions EW 66% Refuted. The figures do not appear in either editorial. A state institution's polling intervention circulated for one cycle and stopped — a one-time publication, not shared ammunition.
H10 Russian channels carry Iran as commodity note while diplomacy runs in third-party reporting EW 72% Partial. The commodity limb confirmed emphatically — TASS relaying the Energy Secretary's transit figure and a Bank of America projection, a milblogger celebrating WTI clearing $100. But Rybar built a doctrinal thesis on the captured UUV, Boris Rozhin supplied its technical genealogy, and rybar_mena published a substantive read of the pro-Saudi information machine. That is sustained editorial attention on its own terms, which was our stated refutation condition.
H11 ≥8 new named objects across ≥3 categories W 85% Confirmed, easily. Anduril Dive-LD, Muwaffaq Salti, al-Khukha, Yakhtal, Mokha, the Hanish islands, Khasab, Ali al-Taher (4.1 magnitude, 1,100 tons), the Mecca Defense Agreement, Brent $109, $6 diesel, the 5.36 percent 30-year yield, 4,383 killed and 12,406 wounded in Lebanon, 11,000 displaced families, 2,600 km², 4.5 trillion tomans.
H12 A named US or Gulf official answers a specific live claim in the same window W 62% Confirmed, but weakly. The US Energy Secretary's figure of nearly 11 million barrels a day still transiting answers the closure claim directly — relayed to us via TASS. The PLC declared a kill zone and Alimi answered the Quds Force planning story. No same-day CENTCOM-style rebuttal of the kind we saw yesterday. Response latency looks longer this cycle.

Summary: 6 confirmed, 3 partial, 3 refuted — against a mean stated probability of 73%. The failure mode inverted. For four cycles we over-predicted structural silence and were repeatedly surprised by presence; today all three refutations went the other way — we predicted that a specific named object would keep travelling, and the White Sands weld, an Amnesty-class finding on Iranian harm, and the Majlis polling numbers each vanished within a cycle. Our structural predictions (H1, H4, H5, H6, H11) all confirmed; our object-persistence predictions all failed. We are treating that split as the instrument's actual shape: it reads recurring behaviors well and the half-life of individual information objects badly. Today's set is weighted accordingly, and the two object-specific predictions carry our lowest probabilities.

Today's predictions

Review window: editorials published by ~22:00 UTC, September 11, 2026.

H1 (78%) [Type E]: A contested advance or loss consolidates into flat declarative reporting across ≥3 ecosystems while its own principal has issued no claim. This is the Mokha structure generalized. Confirmation is any battlefield event where the declarative version appears in three or more ecosystems — Chinese wire, Turkish, Gulf pan-Arab, Persian-service, Russian — while our corpus also records at least one outlet noting the absence of a statement from the party said to have gained. Refutation is a window where every major advance claim is anchored to the claimant's own communiqué. We are measuring whether the ecosystems will build consensus on adversary-sourced testimony, which is a different epistemic habit from amplification.

H2 (72%) [Type E]: The Mecca Defense Agreement remains an object of derision in ≥2 mutually hostile ecosystems, with no activation reported. Middle East Spectator renamed it the "Paper Pact"; Shiite-axis channels taunt Riyadh over Pakistani and Turkish non-arrival; Islamabad and Ankara both publicly declined to activate. Confirmation is continued mockery of the pact's name or emptiness from both an Israeli-aligned and a resistance-aligned source, plus no reported activation step. Refutation is either a concrete activation measure entering the corpus or the pact disappearing from circulation entirely. We are testing whether a deterrence instrument, once publicly disambiguated downward, can be re-inflated.

H3 (70%) [Type E]: An outlet applies claim hygiene to a load-bearing claim originating inside its own ecosystem. Four windows positive, but we are tightening the bar after suspecting we were scoring easy cases. Confirmation now requires the hygiene to attach to a central claim of the window — the kind Al Mayadeen's correspondent applied to the Mokha capture — not a marginal item. A hedge on a peripheral report does not count. Refutation is a window of outward-only scepticism, or hygiene applied only to claims nobody was leaning on.

H4 (72%) [Type E]: A single reporting verb divides an institutional finding's meaning across ecosystems, with the original hedge surviving in ≤2 outlets. Al Arabiya had the IAEA "confirming"; ISNA had "Grossi's claim"; Mehr had "alleged, on the basis of unreliable information"; the actual hedge — indications of activity but no confirmed information as to its nature — survived in one rendering. Confirmation is a repeat on any institutional finding: an agency report, a UN figure, a monitor's assessment, rendered with incompatible epistemic verbs in at least two ecosystems while the source's own qualification is carried by two outlets or fewer. Refutation is a finding travelling with its hedge intact.

H5 (76%) [Type E]: Yemen is covered in one ecosystem at a civilian cost of zero while the counter-frame runs in ≤2 outlets. Five windows running. Confirmation is continued Iranian and resistance-axis coverage of the coastal front as captives, armour and welcoming residents, with civilian harm on that axis appearing only through Anadolu, Al Arabiya, the UN or an agency. Refutation is either ecosystem carrying the other's casualty ledger. Follow Global South & Middle Powers.

H6 (66%) [Type E]: An adversary-aligned aggregator supplies a datum about its own side's adversary that the adversary's own ecosystem does not carry. The Lebanese Health Ministry's cumulative toll — 4,383 killed since 2 March — reached our corpus through an Israeli OSINT channel. Confirmation is another instance of a number, name or document about one belligerent's losses arriving via the opposing ecosystem's aggregators and absent from the aligned outlets. Refutation is a window where cross-ecosystem data transfer runs only through neutral wires. This measures whether adversary-aligned nodes are now functioning as the more complete archive.

H7 (70%) [Type EW]: American domestic economic indicators are covered as war metrics by ≥2 non-US ecosystems, with no US-origin item entering our corpus natively. ISNA published a midterm countdown of US pump prices; a Russian milblogger scored WTI as an ally. Confirmation is continued treatment of US retail fuel, the Treasury curve or the midterm calendar as conflict variables in Iranian and Russian output, reaching us without any natively-sourced American item. Refutation is either ecosystem dropping the scoreboard, or a US-origin source entering directly. This is a prediction about who is permitted to narrate American economic conditions inside this corpus, not about the economy.

H8 (68%) [Type EW]: A symmetric finding from one organization is split, each ecosystem carrying only the half that points outward. Recorded twice now with HRW on Lebanon: IRNA carried the white phosphorus finding alone, Jerusalem Post the cluster-munitions condemnation alone, and only L'Orient Today carried both. Confirmation is a third instance from any monitor, agency or court — one document, two halves, two audiences. Refutation is an outlet in a belligerent-aligned ecosystem carrying a finding against its own side. This is our cleanest test of whether independent monitoring survives ecosystem transit intact.

H9 (62%) [Type EW]: A quantity survives cross-language transit while its categories collapse. CBS's A-10 and eight F-15s became "nine American fighter jets" in IRNA and ISNA; a Russian channel elsewhere turned a task-force review into a destroyed base by dropping one qualifier per hop. Confirmation is a numeric claim reappearing in another language with the count preserved and the distinctions — airframe types, causes, timeframes — merged or dropped. Refutation is a window where numbers either travel with their categories intact or fail to travel. This is an object-specific prediction and priced low on yesterday's lesson.

H10 (68%) [Type EW]: Both Yemeni belligerents continue to be described as authored from outside, with neither ecosystem carrying the mirror claim about its own patron. Middle East Spectator and Jerusalem Post, citing Reuters, put Quds Force officers behind the coastal advance; Al Mayadeen and Intelslava, citing CNN, put 100–200 US advisers in Saudi Arabia. Confirmation is both external-authorship claims still live and each carried predominantly by the ecosystem it indicts. Refutation is either claim crossing — an Iranian outlet engaging the Quds Force reporting on its merits, or a Gulf outlet carrying the US-adviser figure. Watch also Mehr's denial ledger, which catalogs what Tehran thinks is circulating. Follow Regional Focus: Iraq.

H11 (84%) [Type W]: At least eight new named military, maritime, financial, diplomatic or casualty objects enter the corpus across ≥3 categories. Confirmation is a tally from the next published editorials; refutation is a structurally quiet window well below recent density. The verdict measures editorial attention rather than events, and after 196 days the naming rate is one of the few continuous series we hold. What the ecosystems stop naming is itself the finding.

H12 (56%) [Type W]: A named US, Gulf or Israeli official answers a specific claim already live in this corpus within the same window. Lowered ten points after a weak confirmation. Yesterday's response came as a market statistic relayed three mirrors deep, not a same-day rebuttal, and we now suspect the CENTCOM tempo we measured earlier was event-specific rather than standing practice. Confirmation is an on-the-record statement addressing a claim our corpus already carries. Refutation is a window where named, specific claims against US, Gulf or Israeli assets draw no attributable official response anywhere in our sources. We are measuring response latency, not credibility.

What we can't see

By design we do not monitor Western mass media directly: the Reuters Anduril assessment, the CBS Jordan report, the WSJ long-war leak, the CNN adviser count and the AFP and Reuters Mokha sourcing all arrived through intermediaries, most of them belligerent-aligned, and in the Mokha case through the losing side's officials. Our Telegram layer remains roughly 65% Russian milblog and state, with domestic readership degraded since Moscow began blocking the platform in March, and Iran's information environment reaches us through channels curated by the long internet blackout, biasing toward sources with infrastructure to circumvent it. Three blind spots are acute today. We still have no shipping-industry layer — no underwriter, charterer, P&I club or IMO filing — which is why the UKMTO report of projectiles near Khasab sits in our corpus unconnected to the declared exclusion zone and unpriced by anyone we can see. We cannot reconcile the Yemeni casualty ledgers: the displacement figure is the UN's, the convoy deaths are Anadolu's, the Saudi strike counts are Almasirah's, and the population of a port that changed hands appears nowhere — Mokha reaches us as square kilometres, never as people. And we have no view of what was in the Ali al-Taher tunnels; we have a seismic magnitude that all sides agree on and three incompatible descriptions of what produced it.
