The Daily Forecast

Iran Strikes Monitor — July 22, 2026

Day 145 of the US-Israeli air campaign against Iran. Hours 3435–3459 since first strikes at ~06:10 UTC, February 28.

This forecast covers editorials #593 through #594, published between 10:00 and 22:00 UTC yesterday. It scores the previous forecast's twelve predictions against what our editorial corpus actually recorded, then offers twelve new predictions for the next 24 hours.

How this works

This observatory monitors the information environment around the US-Israeli strikes on Iran — not the war itself. We track 55 web sources and ~50 Telegram channels spanning Chinese, Russian, Iranian, Israeli, Arab, Turkish, and Global South ecosystems. Twice daily a panel of seven simulated analysts produces an editorial meta-analysis, and each cycle we publish falsifiable predictions and score them transparently. Predictions are typed: Type E (ecosystem behavior we observe directly), Type W (world events visible only through ecosystem reflections), and Type EW (how one real-world event is differentially constructed across ecosystems).

These predictions are about what stories will be told, not what will happen. When we name an oil figure, an insurance rate, a transit count or a casualty tally, we are testing whether the information conditions that keep that object visible and contested in our corpus hold — not offering a verification, a trading signal, or an intelligence estimate. By design we do not monitor Western mass media directly — NYT, WSJ, CNN, CBS, Reuters, CENTCOM — they reach us only as reflected, amplified, and reframed by the ecosystems we study, often several mirrors deep. About our methodology.

Where we are

A hyperscaler entered the target set and moved faster than anything anyone could check. #593 recorded IRGC Communiqué 39 — cruise missiles destroying Amazon's central data infrastructure in Bahrain — reaching Press TV, Al Masirah, Almayadeen, Al Jazeera Arabic, Xinhua, Trend, AzerNews, Anadolu, Jerusalem Post and teleSUR within roughly two hours. Exactly one node applied friction: BBC Persian, noting Bahraini authorities had not confirmed and Reuters could not verify. Radars and Patriot batteries are interchangeable in this corpus by now; a data center is a new kind of object, and category novelty is what propagated. Follow Strike Operations & Targets.

Ship trackers are now the only arbiter either side accepts. #593 put Fars on a closed strait against CENTCOM's cumulative 900 vessels and 450 million barrels, then Bloomberg reporting zero crossings and Kpler counting twelve on Monday. #594 recorded the Ansarullah blockade of Saudi ports being adjudicated in hours — Reuters via LSEG documenting Saudi-crude tankers reversing toward Suez, Asian buyers weighing routes around Africa, Brent above $91. The damage-imagery contest, which has no equivalent instrument, remains unsettled and will stay that way. Follow Strait of Hormuz & Oil.

Gulf officialdom moved from absorption to record-building. #594 logged Kuwait's ministry confirming strikes on power and desalination plants for a fourth consecutive day, a cabinet condemnation naming facilities, a foreign-ministry summons of Iran's ambassador, a Judicial Council statement, Saudi solidarity, and Qatar writing separately to the UN demanding compensation. Tehran's counter is not legal but historical — Baqaei posting images of Iranian specialists extinguishing Kuwait's 1991 oil fires. One side is building a file; the other is invoking a debt.

Both ecosystems are harvesting the adversary's self-criticism. #593 recorded Iranian outlets running a Washington Post CIA dead-end assessment, a Telegraph missile-shortage line, and Maariv calling Hormuz Iran's greatest strategic achievement. #594 added Hegseth's $37.5 billion figure, his concession that Iran "undoubtedly still has capabilities," and Senator Murray reading his own April claim back to him. Iranian imagery of Tower 22 crossed into Hebrew via AbuAliExpress uncontested. Each side takes the other's most damaging domestic reporting and leaves the rest.

Yesterday's scorecard

We score the previous forecast's twelve predictions against #593 and #594.

# Prediction Type P Verdict
H1 Gulf documentary record continues; US presence unnamed as cause E 87% Confirmed — Kuwait's cabinet condemnation, the ministry's fourth-day confirmation, the ambassador summons over the Keyfan, the Judicial Council statement, Saudi solidarity, Qatar's UN letters demanding compensation. Not one names the American basing arrangement as a cause. The register hardened from protest to file-building.
H2 ~100-wounded figure stays shared, framing contested EW 85% Confirmed — the Pentagon's ~100 reached us as Mehr's "Pentagon confesses," as RadioFarda's flat relay, as Press TV's "dozens withheld," as Fars citing NYT on 24 wounded at one base, and as Press TV citing the Intercept at ~750 since October. Trump's comparative-casualty post arrived reflected through Fars and Mehr. Same object, five incompatible surrounds.
H3 Imagery-export chain runs again with downstream assessment E 84% Confirmed — Tower 22 and Muwaffaq al-Salti before-and-after imagery ran Iranian state release → AbuAliExpress in Hebrew → Boris Rozhin. The chain traversed three-plus nodes and crossed an adversary ecosystem uncontested, which exceeds what we specified.
H4 Iranian damage as provincial arithmetic, Gulf damage third-party narrated EW 83% Confirmed — Bushehr's 6,168 damaged housing units, 62 further body fragments at Minab, the emergency chief's 54 damaged stations and ten destroyed ambulances, against Kuwait's ministry accounting and Rybar MENA-style third-party narration. The desalination juxtaposition in #594 — Merkley asking Caine about Iranian plants the same day Kuwait's were hit a fourth time — is the cleanest evidence yet that no source holds both ledgers.
H5 Western utterances reach us only through mirrors EW 86% ConfirmedWashington Post, Telegraph, WSJ, CNN, Fox, NYT, Bloomberg, Reuters, the Senate hearing and Trump's own Truth Social post all entered via ISNA, Almayadeen, TASS, Fars, Mehr, Al Jazeera Arabic and Al Arabiya. Near-total again.
H6 Unenforced declaration converted into price or route change same cycle E 82% Confirmed — Ansarullah's declared Saudi blockade produced two documented tanker reversals within hours, then six per a Yemeni source, Asian buyers pricing a four-week Africa detour, Brent above $91 and a Goldman $120 warning. The declaration moved hulls before any enforcement was demonstrated.
H7 Mediation stays crowded, non-exclusive, wire-relayed E 81% Partial — the Axios ten-day ceasefire proposal with two Hormuz transit-fee options arrived via TASS, ISNA, Asia-Plus and Al Jazeera Arabic, satisfying the relay condition. But no second competing mediator surfaced in either window at comparable prominence. One track, well-relayed.
H8 Diplomacy and strikes on the same clock, each reads the other as cover E 80% Partial — operations and the ceasefire proposal were co-present, and Iran's Khatam al-Anbia pre-committed to treating a nuclear-site strike as widening the war. But we did not record an explicit "diplomacy as cover" reading of the kind we specified. The structure held; the utterance did not appear.
H9 Sectarian and internal-security messaging runs ahead of events E 79% Too early — neither window carried a pre-positioned unity or infiltration item, nor an attribution outrunning an investigation. What we did record is closer to its inverse: two genuine intra-ecosystem corrections, at Isfahan and Khorramabad, where provincial authorities denied strikes their own OSINT layer had asserted. Unscoreable, not partial.
H10 Minab travels institutionally while forensic detail under-amplifies EW 76% Refuted — the forensic material was the carrier this cycle. Sixty-two further body fragments recovered, one child still named as missing, five commemorative channels opening in thirteen hours. The poems and the arithmetic travelled together, and the number travelled further. This is the refutation condition we ourselves wrote.
H11 ≥5 new named objects enter the corpus W 85% Confirmed — Amazon's Bahrain data infrastructure, Darkhovin, Tower 22, Muwaffaq al-Salti, the Keyfan, Limah, Dibba, Pickaxe Mountain, the Bi-Yek bridge, the $37.5 billion cost figure. Well past five.
H12 Traffic indicators stay contested and partial W 74% Confirmed — CENTCOM's cumulative 900 vessels against Bloomberg's zero crossings against Kpler's twelve on Monday, with Fars asserting closure outright. Three figures, no reconciliation, and each side citing the instrument that flatters it.

Summary: 8 confirmed, 2 partial, 1 refuted, 1 too early (~83% directionally correct, ~67% clean confirmations). A recovery from our worst cycle, and it validates the correction we announced yesterday: every confirmation names a structural relation rather than requiring a specific actor to speak. The one refutation, H10, failed in the most useful direction — we predicted forensic detail would travel poorly and it travelled better than the commemorative frame, which means we have been underestimating how much procedural specificity the Iranian ecosystem will carry when the count is still rising. H9's "too early" is the second cycle running that we have failed to score a prediction requiring an event to occur; we are retiring that construction from this set.

Today's predictions

Review window: editorials published by ~22:00 UTC, July 22, 2026.

H1 (88%) [Type E]: The Amazon-in-Bahrain claim stays unresolved — it recirculates or is invoked without any host-state, corporate or independent confirmation entering the corpus. #593 traced it to five continents in two hours with exactly one verification caveat, from BBC Persian. Confirmation is the claim appearing again in ≥1 ecosystem with no confirming or denying statement from Bahraini authorities or the company. Refutation is a corporate or host-state statement of any kind entering our corpus, which would be the first time a named commercial target has been adjudicated. We are testing the durability of an unverified object, not the state of any data center.

H2 (86%) [Type EW]: Ship-tracking data continues to settle maritime disputes within a cycle while imagery-based damage claims remain unsettled. #594 is the model: LSEG and Kpler adjudicated the Saudi blockade in hours, while Tower 22 imagery crossed three ecosystems and acquired no independent assessment. Confirmation is ≥1 maritime claim resolved by a named tracking source co-present with ≥1 damage claim circulating without verification. Refutation is imagery acquiring independent adjudication, or trackers producing contested rather than converging figures. The asymmetry is between instruments, not between belligerents.

H3 (85%) [Type E]: Gulf host states file at least one further legal or procedural instrument, and the American presence on their territory remains unnamed as a cause. Kuwait summoned Iran's ambassador, its cabinet named specific facilities, Qatar demanded compensation at the UN. Confirmation is ≥1 new summons, letter, cabinet minute or judicial statement. Refutation is a host state publicly connecting the strikes to the basing arrangement, or a full quiet cycle. This is the fourth consecutive cycle we have run this prediction; the omission has been more stable than any statement.

H4 (84%) [Type EW]: Western and American utterances reach our corpus only through adversary and bystander mirrors. The Senate hearing, Hegseth's $37.5 billion, Murray's readback, the Washington Post CIA assessment and Trump's own posts all arrived via Fars, Mehr, ISNA, Almayadeen, TASS and Al Arabiya. Confirmation is ≥1 US-internal utterance entering exclusively through non-US amplification. Refutation is a US-origin story reaching us first-party, which our instrument would flag as an anomaly in the relay chain rather than in the content.

H5 (83%) [Type E]: Pickaxe Mountain remains a pre-negotiated object — commentary about a strike that has not occurred continues, on both the feasibility and the consequences. #594 recorded Trump's "absolutely," resistance channels circulating the 120–150 metres of granite within the hour, CIG noting B-1s rather than B-2s departed Britain, and Khatam al-Anbia pre-declaring the response. Confirmation is ≥1 further feasibility or consequence claim about the site absent a strike. Refutation is a strike occurring, which converts the object, or the site leaving the corpus. We are watching argument run ahead of event.

H6 (82%) [Type EW]: The casualty ledgers stay partitioned by ecosystem, with US, Iranian and Gulf figures circulating in mutually non-overlapping registers and no source publishing a consolidated tally. #594 put ~100 US injured, 24 at one Jordanian base, ~750 since October, 50-plus Iranian dead and 500-plus injured, 6,168 Bushehr housing units and 62 Minab fragments in four ecosystems that never cite each other's numbers. Confirmation is ≥2 casualty categories carried without cross-reference. Refutation is any single source holding two ledgers, or a neutral body publishing a specific belligerent-attributed tally.

H7 (81%) [Type E]: A declaration with no demonstrated enforcement is again converted into a commercial response inside the same cycle. The Ansarullah blockade moved tankers on the announcement alone; Brent crossed $91 and Goldman priced $120 on a scenario. Confirmation is ≥1 announced-but-unverified action co-present with a reported route change, premium or price move. Refutation is a cycle where commercial indicators track only physically observed events. We are testing whether the market is still pricing narrative, and reading the verdict from what our sources report about prices, not from the prices.

H8 (80%) [Type EW]: The Kuwaiti desalination story and the Iranian desalination story continue to be reported by different ecosystems that do not acknowledge each other. #594 recorded the Senate asking whether the US targeted Iranian plants on the same day Kuwait reported its own hit a fourth time, and no source in our corpus put the two together. Confirmation is both water stories present in the corpus with no source connecting them. Refutation is a single outlet treating civilian water infrastructure as one category across both belligerents. This is a test of a structural silence we have now watched hold for several cycles.

H9 (78%) [Type E]: At least one intra-ecosystem correction occurs — an Iranian provincial, ministerial or aggregator source publicly contradicts a strike claim originating inside its own information environment. #593 recorded Isfahan's governor denying an attack that IntelSlava had upgraded from Mehr's ambiguous report, resolved seven hours later as controlled ordnance detonation; #594 recorded Lorestan denying the Khorramabad strike, with Mehr itself carrying the denial. Confirmation is ≥1 such correction. Refutation is a cycle where claims propagate without internal contradiction. Two consecutive cycles make this a pattern worth testing rather than an anomaly worth noting.

H10 (77%) [Type E]: The Russian ecosystem stays institutionally engaged and operationally disengaged — ministry and wire coverage continues while the milblog layer allocates its volume elsewhere. #593 found Rozhin, Dva Majors, Rybar, Readovka and Voenny Osvedomitel on Ukraine, with one unlabeled missile montage between them, while Lavrov worked ASEAN in Manila and TASS relayed CENTCOM's own figures flatly. Confirmation is milblog Iran volume staying low relative to Russian state and diplomatic items. Refutation is the milblog layer taking up Iran as a primary file, which would mark a change in Moscow's perceived equity. Follow Regional Focus: Russia.

H11 (85%) [Type W]: At least five new named military, maritime, infrastructure, financial or casualty objects enter the editorial corpus. The last two windows produced Amazon's Bahrain infrastructure, Darkhovin, Tower 22, the Keyfan, Limah, Dibba, Pickaxe Mountain, the Bi-Yek bridge and a $37.5 billion cost figure. The widening Gulf-littoral frame and the provincial damage ledger keep naming density well above baseline. Confirmation is a tally from the next published editorials. Refutation is a structurally quiet window far below recent density. The verdict is read from what the ecosystems choose to name.

H12 (73%) [Type W]: Hormuz and Red Sea indicators stay contested and partial — transit counts, flow estimates, insurance rates or oil prices enter from ≥2 mutually uncorroborating sources with no consolidated figure adopted. #593 carried CENTCOM's cumulative 900 vessels against Bloomberg's zero and Kpler's twelve; #594 added LSEG reversals, a Yemeni source's six vessels and Goldman's scenario price. Confirmation is ≥2 traffic or flow figures co-present without reconciliation. Refutation is a single authoritative series being adopted across ecosystems, which would be the most consequential convergence we have seen on this file. Follow Strait of Hormuz & Oil.

What we can't see

By design we do not monitor Western mass media directly — NYT, WSJ, CNN, Bloomberg, Reuters, CENTCOM, the Senate hearing record — and both windows were mirror-thick even by our standards: Hegseth's cost figure, the CIA dead-end assessment, the Axios ceasefire proposal and the Kpler transit counts all reached us through relays with a stake in how they landed. Iran's information environment still reaches us through state-curated channels degraded by the long internet blackout, which biases our corpus toward sources with the infrastructure to circumvent it. Three blind spots are acute this cycle: we cannot verify a single frame of the Tower 22 and Muwaffaq al-Salti imagery now driving the damage narrative, and every node assessing it lacks independent access; we cannot establish anything about the Amazon claim, where a named commercial target has now circulated globally with one verification caveat and no corporate or host-state response of any kind; and our Telegram corpus remains ~65% Russian-aligned at a moment when that ecosystem is simultaneously the principal relay for American casualty reporting and the principal amplifier of Iranian damage claims, while its milblog layer has largely stopped covering this war.
