Gulf officialdom crosses from absorption to record-building
Kuwait's information posture changed register in this window. The electricity and water ministry confirmed strikes on power stations and desalination plants for a fourth consecutive day [TG-512816, WEB-83868, WEB-83870]; the cabinet issued a formal condemnation naming two power stations and oil facilities [TG-514360, TG-514361]; the foreign ministry summoned Iran's ambassador over the tanker Keyfan [TG-513480, WEB-83939]; even the Judicial Council published its own statement [WEB-84053]. Saudi Arabia's cabinet renewed solidarity with Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan [TG-513116], and Qatar's mission wrote separately to the UN and Security Council demanding compensation and respect for sovereignty [TG-512674, TG-513058, TG-514085].
This is an ecosystem building a paper record rather than a rhetorical one — summonses, protest notes, cabinet minutes. Tehran's counter-move is not legal but historical: foreign ministry spokesman Baqaei posted an image of the Iranian specialists who extinguished Kuwait's oil-well fires in 1991, framing Kuwaiti cooperation as ingratitude and short-sightedness [TG-514169, TG-514254], with Fars running a companion essay asking whether this is the reward for Iranian hospitality [TG-514168]. When one side reaches for the debt ledger, it is because the legal ledger is not going its way.
An image crosses the line it should not cross
Iran released before-and-after satellite imagery of the US barracks at Tower 22 and the Muwaffaq al-Salti airbase in Jordan [TG-513002, TG-513196, TG-513255]. The migration matters more than the pixels: when an adversary's own channel relays your damage claim without dispute, the claim has stopped being argued and started being assumed.
The borrowing runs both directions, and selectively. Iranian outlets amplified Israeli Channel 14 reporting that the US is relocating fighters and refuelling aircraft out of regional bases [TG-513210, TG-514124], Channel 14's assessment that Washington cannot protect those bases [WEB-83938], and its claim that Gulf officials are quietly calling Israel's UN mission to ask where this is heading [TG-513044]. Each ecosystem harvests the adversary's most self-damaging domestic reporting and leaves the rest on the shelf.
The casualty figure becomes the contested object
No single number was fought over harder. RadioFarda, citing the Pentagon spokesman, reported nearly one hundred US troops injured in two weeks [TG-512983]; Fars, citing the New York Times, put twenty-four wounded at the Jordanian airbase alone [TG-513695]; Al Arabiya and Al Hadath carried CNN reporting that the Pentagon is delaying disclosure of casualties [TG-513517, TG-513513]; Press TV, citing the Intercept, claimed nearly 750 US troops killed or injured in the region since October [TG-514040]. Trump's own contribution — a Truth Social post comparing this war's death toll favourably to Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam and Korea — reached us reflected through Fars and Mehr [TG-514450, TG-514558]. A comparative-casualty table is what you publish when the absolute number has become the argument.
The Senate hearing then supplied Tehran with material it did not have to manufacture. Hegseth put the war's cost at $37.5 billion [TG-514415, TG-514446], conceded Iran 'undoubtedly still has capabilities' [TG-514456], and heard Senator Murray read back his own April claim that Iran's missile programme was functionally destroyed [TG-514479, TG-514366]. ISNA carried Jeffries calling the operation an 'epic failure' [TG-513319] and Senator Murphy saying Iran has won [TG-513965]; Al Mayadeen carried polling showing 62 percent US support for negotiations against 24 percent opposed [TG-513943].
Where shipping data arbitrates and imagery cannot
The Ansarullah blockade of Saudi ports was adjudicated not by communiqués but by ship trackers: Reuters via LSEG documented two Saudi-crude tankers bound for China and India reversing toward Suez [TG-513374, TG-513297], later six vessels per a Yemeni military source [TG-513810, WEB-84087]; Reuters also reported Asian buyers weighing routing around Africa, adding up to four weeks [TG-514233, TG-514234]. Kpler, via the NYT in Al Jazeera Arabic, counted twelve Hormuz transits on Monday [TG-512547]. Brent crossed $91 [TG-513413, WEB-84014]; Goldman Sachs warned of $120 on sustained disruption [WEB-83791]. Both belligerents cite these instruments because neither can dispute them cheaply — which is exactly why the damage-imagery contest above remains unresolved.
A target announced, a rebuttal pre-loaded
Trump said the US will 'absolutely' strike Pickaxe Mountain, and soon [TG-513680, TG-513687, TG-513689], carried onward by Middle East Spectator, BBC Persian and Fars [TG-513883, TG-513735]. Within the hour, resistance-aligned channels were circulating the counter-case — the site sits 120–150 metres beneath granite [TG-514266, TG-514372] — while CIG noted that B-1s, not the bunker-capable B-2s, had departed Britain [TG-514293, TG-514080]. Iran's Khatam al-Anbia headquarters answered that a strike on nuclear sites would be treated as a widening of the war, with all US and allied interests targeted [TG-514519, TG-514527, TG-514548]. Both sides are pre-negotiating the meaning of a strike that has not happened.
What gets corrected, and what does not
One genuine correction: Press TV reported a US attack on Khorramabad [TG-512696] and Iranian state TV a strike in the mountains near the city [TG-512680]; the Lorestan governorate's political-security deputy denied any attack in the province [TG-513021], Mehr published the denial [TG-513104], and Al Jazeera Arabic carried it [TG-513041]. Intra-ecosystem retraction at that speed is rare enough to note.
Against that, the material that receives no such scrutiny. Miner officials in Minab announced 62 further body fragments recovered from the school, with one channel adding that Makan is still missing [TG-513142, TG-513456]; Bushehr's governor reported 6,168 housing units damaged [TG-513542, TG-514186]; Iran petitioned the UN over a strike on the Darkhovin nuclear plant, and the Secretary-General's spokesman confirmed concern over attacks on Iranian civilian infrastructure [WEB-84028, TG-514408]. And the sharpest juxtaposition of the day went unremarked in every ecosystem we monitor: Senator Merkley asked General Caine whether the US deliberately targeted desalination plants inside Iran — Caine said he was not aware of them being particular targets [TG-514477, TG-514512] — on the same day Kuwait reported its own desalination plants hit for the fourth time [WEB-83870]. Two water systems, two civilian populations, and the question asked in only one direction.
