Standing caveat: Our Telegram corpus skews ~65% Russian milblog/state, ~15% OSINT, with limited Iranian state output. Web sources include Chinese, Turkish, Israeli, Arab, US hawkish, and South/Southeast Asian outlets. All claims below are attributed to their source ecosystems. We do not adopt any belligerent's framing as editorial conclusion.
Note on source composition: Russia began blocking domestic Telegram access on March 15-16, 2026. Our scraping infrastructure operates externally and continues to collect from Russian channels normally. However, domestic Russian readership of these channels may be significantly reduced, potentially altering their function within the information ecosystem. We are monitoring for changes in posting patterns, view counts, and platform migration.
A blank space, and who filled it
The window's most consequential maritime report arrived as a deliberate absence. UKMTO reported a vessel struck by an unknown projectile while exiting Hormuz near Oman's Khasab, with engine-room damage and one crew member injured [TG-564900, TG-564901, TG-564902]. What ecosystems did with that blank is the story.
Iranian state media preserved it. Fars [TG-564935], IRNA [TG-564948], ISNA [TG-565025] and Press TV [TG-564943] all reproduced the UKMTO wording, including the word unknown, and claimed nothing. So did BBC Persian [TG-565138] and TASS [TG-564915]. Attribution entered instead through the layer between belligerent and press: the OSINT aggregator Middle East Spectator rewrote it as a flat declarative — Iran has struck a vessel in the Strait [TG-564899] — and the resistance-axis channel Fotros Resistance generalised it into a policy, asserting six continuous days of Iranian enforcement against ships taking unauthorised routes [TG-565655].
The division of labour is consistent. Iranian officials made maximal claims about control while claiming no individual hull: IRGC deputy commander Izadi told Al Mayadeen Iran has achieved deterrence through complete control of Hormuz [TG-565374], and Fars carried his line that the strait is entirely in the hands of Iran's children [TG-565589]. Qalibaf, via Al Jazeera Arabic, kept it at the level of conditions: Hormuz will not open before the blockade is lifted, frozen assets released and oil sanctions ended [TG-565635]. Deterrent signal through affiliates; deniability through the state.
Two Hormuzes, measured differently
The ecosystems are now openly contesting the same empirical question. Reuters ship-tracking via AJA: transits rose slightly, six cargo ships Monday, three outbound and three in [TG-564905, TG-564922]. BBC Persian ran the same data with the opposite emphasis — still single digits, talks deadlocked [TG-565228]. Al Mayadeen's correspondent, reporting from the strait itself, said the reality on the ground refutes American talk of alternative routes: it is closed, and ships wait for Iranian permission [TG-565520, TG-565521]. TASS carried Kirill Dmitriev's formulation — Schrödinger's Strait of Hormuz, open and closed simultaneously [TG-565750] — the window's most honest line, from the party with least at stake.
One datapoint is not rhetorical. Reuters, via AJA, reports two large Chinese shipping companies have halted oil tankers through both Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab [TG-565522]. Firms that stop sailing are not posturing. Note the divergence inside the Chinese signal: in the same window Beijing's ambassador told ISNA that China opposes illegal US actions and wants closer ties with Tehran [TG-565321]. Diplomatic warmth, commercial withdrawal — and the price transmission is being tracked by, among others, the Nigerian business press [TG-564826, TG-565797].
Idlib: the count grows as the claim travels
Reuters, citing three Syrian military sources via Al Mayadeen, reported four airstrikes of unclear origin on the Abu al-Duhur airbase runway and storage depots [TG-565372, TG-565373]. Syrian state broadcasting, carried by the same outlet hours later, had it at eight Israeli raids with material damage and no casualties [TG-565518]. Fars called Israel the main suspect in an unconfirmed report [TG-565079]. Press TV foregrounded that Turkish forces are stationed there [TG-565057].
The interpretation was supplied by two channels on opposite sides who agree with each other: the Israeli OSINT account AbuAliExpress asked whether the campaign-between-wars against Turkey has begun [TG-565059], and Rybar MENA headlined it a signal for Ankara [TG-565327]. This landed hours after the Turkish presidency, via Reuters and AJA, said Erdogan told Trump that continued talks with Iran matter and Ankara is ready to contribute [TG-564504, TG-564505]. Both items ran on the same feeds; no outlet in our corpus connected them.
Whose civilian harm gets carried, and by whom
The Union of Gaza Municipalities issued the window's most checkable humanitarian claim via AJA: imminent collapse of water and sanitation, collective thirst, oils reaching only 40 of 700 generators, most wells stopped [TG-565337, TG-565339, TG-565376, TG-565379]. It ran as flash lines on one Arabic broadcaster. UN OCHA's count of 186 aid workers killed in Gaza in 2025 reached our corpus through Mehr, an Iranian state agency [TG-565222]. The detonation of the public water reservoir serving Mansouri in southern Lebanon was carried by the Houthi outlet Al-Masirah [TG-565777], while the strikes themselves travelled everywhere — Quds News [TG-564773], Fars [TG-564844], AbuAliExpress [TG-565106]. The strike travels; the water tank does not.
Qusra shows the contest directly: the mayor tells AJA that besieged families face acute food and medicine shortages [TG-565291, TG-565449], while AbuAliExpress argues in the same window that the besieged-house narrative is being pushed in force across the entire Palestinian spectrum, Hamas- and Fatah-aligned alike [TG-565481]. Both are in the corpus.
In Iraq, AJA carried the deputy health director's figure of 18 injured in the Sulaymaniyah fuel-depot blast, cause unknown [TG-564727]; Press TV rendered it as a night sky lit like a nuclear blast [TG-564852]. Meanwhile IntelSlava, forwarding OSINTWarfare, had attributed a Tasluja fuel-tank strike to an Iranian drone [TG-564519], and Rybar MENA stated flatly that Iranian Hadid-110 drones hit the Kurdistan PM's office and the security chief's residence [TG-565480] — directly contradicting Araghchi's false-flag framing carried by Press TV [TG-564858] and Al-Masirah [TG-564497]. A Russian military channel is currently the most damaging witness against an Iranian denial.
And Minab returned not as casualty data but as canon: Araghchi calling the school's martyred students and teachers a legend of the war and an eternal epic [TG-565132]; Qalibaf pledging not to forgive their blood [TG-565665].
One poll, five ecosystems, one added arrow
Reuters/Ipsos put Trump at 33 percent. IntelSlava ran it bare [TG-564451]. Press TV attached the causal claim — Americans rejecting the war of aggression against Iran [TG-564869]. BBC Persian noted the Iran war among the main concerns [TG-564854]; teleSUR [TG-565070] and Quds News [TG-565485] carried it too. Al Arabiya ran the adjacent frame: the Iran war becoming an electoral weapon in the midterms [TG-564637]. We see all of this through mirrors — as we do the Washington Post piece relayed by Mehr arguing Trump is stuck in a quagmire sixty days on [TG-565803]. Most striking is Al Mayadeen serialising a Foreign Affairs essay as breaking-news bullets: the American role in the region is over, the post-1991 order a casualty, the failure to remove Tehran's government proof of the bankruptcy of decades of sanctions and violence [TG-565282, TG-565283, TG-565284, TG-565285]. The ecosystems are collectively building the argument that American regional primacy has ended — and this window, the load-bearing citation is American.
